Why desktops still win on speed
A desktop chassis holds its clocks, feeds a full-power graphics card and takes a second card or a larger one later. For image and video generation, where raw compute decides how long you wait, that matters more than anything else on the spec sheet.
Usable AI memory decides what a machine can load at all, and memory bandwidth decides how fast it answers once loaded. Those two numbers matter more than the processor name on the box. A machine with a large unified pool and modest bandwidth will run a very large model slowly; a machine with a fast narrow pool will run a small model quickly and refuse a large one outright.
The VRAM ceiling
A desktop with a discrete card gives a model the card's VRAM and nothing more. System RAM still helps, because layers that do not fit can run on the processor, but that path is slow enough that we list it separately as CPU offload capacity rather than folding it into the headline figure.
