Fast, and capped at 16GB
The RTX 5080 is quick, and 16GB of VRAM decides what you can do with it. A 14B model at Q4 fits comfortably. A 24B model is tight. A 32B model needs offload, at which point most of the speed advantage disappears.
Usable AI memory decides what a machine can load at all, and memory bandwidth decides how fast it answers once loaded. Those two numbers matter more than the processor name on the box. A machine with a large unified pool and modest bandwidth will run a very large model slowly; a machine with a fast narrow pool will run a small model quickly and refuse a large one outright.
Who it suits
It suits image generation and smaller language models, and it suits anyone who wants a capable gaming machine that also runs AI workloads. It does not suit anyone whose target is a large model.
Consider the alternative
At similar money a unified-memory machine gives several times the usable memory and a fraction of the bandwidth. Which is better depends entirely on the size of the model you intend to run, so decide that first.
